What Is a Wooden Pallet?
A wooden pallet is a flat timber structure that supports goods for lifting by forklift, pallet jack or crane. It is the oldest and still the most widely used unit-load platform in the world and for good reason: it is cheap, strong for its cost, easy to repair and can be built to any dimension a load requires. Pallets are built from softwood such as pine and spruce or hardwood where higher load capacity is needed. Boards are nailed to bearers or blocks to form a deck with entry points for forklift tines. The construction is simple, which is exactly why it remains the default across logistics, manufacturing and export. Al Zahra International Investments supplies wooden pallets to logistics companies, manufacturers, exporters, warehouses and traders throughout the Sultanate of Oman, in both standard stock sizes and custom dimensions built to the load.
FAQ
What is ISPM-15 and do wooden pallets need it?
ISPM-15 is the international standard for wood packaging in export. Any wooden pallet crossing an international border must be heat treated or fumigated and stamped with the IPPC mark. Without it, shipments can be refused, held or destroyed at the destination port. Al Zahra supplies ISPM-15 heat treated, stamped export pallets.
What is the difference between a wooden pallet and a Euro pallet?
A Euro pallet (EPAL) is a specific standardised wooden pallet measuring 1200×800 mm, built to the European standard for use in European supply chains. A “wooden pallet” is the general category, which includes Euro pallets, standard 1200×1000 mm pallets and custom sizes.
Are wooden pallets cheaper than plastic pallets?
Yes, considerably, on unit cost. Wooden pallets are the most economical pallet type and are repairable, which is why they dominate one-way export and heavy-load handling. Plastic pallets cost more but last longer in closed-loop and hygiene-critical use.
Can wooden pallets be made to a custom size?
Yes. Custom sizing is one of the main advantages of timber pallets. Pallets are built to any dimension to fit non-standard, long, heavy or oddly shaped loads routinely and at little extra cost.
What weight can a wooden pallet hold?
Depending on timber and construction, static load runs up to heavy duty wooden pallets can hold weight upto 3000 Kgs.
